Rilakkuma

I discovered recently that a friend of mine is a huge fan of the insanely cute Japanese character Rilakkuma, whose name means 'Relax Bear'.

Of course I knew immediately that I had to make an amigurumi Rilakkuma for him.  He loved it so much that he took it to work and a colleague saw it and adored it too.  He has now commissioned me to make another to give to her as a gift.

Since I made the original up as I went along I didn't keep a note of the pattern, so to make another I had to create it from scratch again.  That said, I think the second one has come out even better than the first, and this time I wrote down the pattern!

It's my first pattern, so I hope it makes sense.  I've used standard US crochet terms (despite being in the UK as I am more used to them. If you prefer UK terminology, just substitute sc (single crochet) for dc (double crochet).

  1. Hi, thank you for posting this, it looks so cute. I'm trying to make the body right now, and I've run into a problem on round 7 (first round of body core). The line reads: Round 7 - 6sc, inc, 12sc, inc, 6sc (20). The previous round came up to 18 stitches. But, we have two sets of 6 single crochet (12 stitches), plus two sets of increases (4 stitches in two stitches in previous round), and 12 single crochet (12 stitches). But the single crochet alone, even if we don't count the increases, comes out to using 24 stitches from the previous round (of which we have 18 stitches to use). Your total says I should wind up with 20 stitches, but I'm counting 28 (and should use 26 stitches from the previous round). This is my first amigurumi, am I misunderstanding something? Thanks in advance for any help.

    1. Sorry for delay in replying, life has been manic recently!

No you're not misunderstanding, looks like I mistyped - will correct the pattern so hopefully it will make more sense! Thankyou for noticing!
